March Happenings

This month’s pace was busy, with a great USA Weightlifting Level I Sports Performance Coach course held in Morrisville, NC. Twenty-eight participants worked hard over two days to master weightlifting movements and their application to other sports. Judging by the number of weightlifting shoes broken out during the practical sessions, I concluded we had a number of experienced lifters taking part.

In addition to a number of CrossFit instructors seeking more information and credentials, the group also included an entry into this year’s Boston Marathon, a PGA player/coach, and a cycling coach. Pedro Ivo Carooso Cosenza, a colleague I met last year in Rio, traveled all the way from Brazil for the program. They had been told that this course was a “must” for their further coaching development.

Many thanks go to Mike Young, PhD, and Chris Garrett, both of The Athletic Lab (www.AthleticLab.com) for hosting this very successful program. By the way, The Athletic Lab is a great new facility guaranteed to make its mark with elite and recreational athletes in the Research Triangle area. If you are in the area, drop by to check out the facility.

Today I’m off to Boca Raton, FL for a few days of Dartfish training. The course is held at USA Tennis’ headquarters and will serve as an introduction for many new Dartfish users and a refresher for those of us who have used this great motion analysis software in recent years. Keep an eye on this site for some new Dartfish-linked features.

Upcoming Programs

The NSCA, NASM, and BoC CEU programs for April are on schedule, with programs in Amelia Island and Pensacola. If you’re interested, act now by checking for details on the home page.

A recent chat with colleague Robert Brown (www.RBrownSports.com) of Dallas confirmed my participation in a volleyball S&C program Robert hosts June 10-11. Stay tuned for more information.

The week after Dallas, June 18-19, has me back at the Dowd YMCA of Charlotte, NC for their annual fitness expo and seminar series. Kim Kootz and Gina Josey, the fitness movers and shakers at the Y, invited me to return for several presentations. In 2005 I presented five times on various topics. More details will be available next in next month’s Strength & Power Notes.
