Mike Gattone, USA Weightlifting’s High Performance and Coaching Education Director, pulled together a great coaching seminar, August 6-8, at the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center. Featured speakers were German coaches Frank Mantek (1980 Olympic bronze medalist) and Michael Vater, along with Poland's Zygmunt Smalcerz (1972 and 1976 Olympic Champion).

Sessions included a review of the German coaching system, a demonstration of their Realanalyzer video analysis system, Smalcerz’s report of his first month as the OTC residence coach, and roundtable discussions on general coaching topics of interest to the 40 or so gathered coaches.

IWF Vice-President Dragomir Cioroslan announced a new, enhanced effort on behalf of the IWF to step-up its game against banned substance use.

Overall, the program was a big success. More international seminars are planned for the future.
