NSCA Revisited
The National Strength and Conditioning Association conference and tradeshow was held in Orlando this past week. As always, days of presentations on myriad topics were staged alongside a tradeshow featuring equipment, supplements, educational products, and other related topics.
“It’s always interesting to attend one of these shows,” Harvey Newton said from the conference floor. “It’s a great chance to see old friends, create new opportunities, check on the latest scientific attempts in the fitness field, and eat a lot of strange tasting supplements!”Again this year, there was a lot of attention paid to Olympic-style lifting, with representatives of UESAKA and Werk San USA available to show equipment and talk training. Several speakers addressed the topic of learning and/or applying weightlifting techniques for improved performance. The International Index Invitational, a one-hour demo of explosive performances by young athletes, featured a repetition hang power clean element. During the 1990s Harvey Newton was the editor-in-chief of Strength and Conditioning Journal, the Director of Program Development and the NSCA’s Executive Director.
