Strength and Power Notes August 2009

We’ve had very positive responses to the changes at www.Newton-Sports.com. Thanks for all who have taken the time to contribute. Checking out some of the details at Google Analytics and similar functions, the new site has made a much larger impact on the Internet audience than the old site.

Thanks to Katie Smythe and the great staff at Gainesville Health and Fitness Center for a fantastic 8-hour workshop on July 11. This was mostly staff that function as personal trainers, looking for new tools in their arsenal. “The group was extremely knowledgeable, several knew and implemented Olympic-style lifts with their training of athletes. A few of staff were already certified as USA Weightlifting club or sports performance coaches." Harvey Newton commented after the program. As shown in the headlines section of the home page, Harvey Newton and Doug Lane will team up to present at The Razor’s Edge/CrossFit Pensacola in September. Owner Gil Petruska has put together a great program for Saturday, September 19. Anyone looking for further details on learning or coaching weightlifting (snatch, clean-and-jerk) lifts in the Florida Panhandle or Alabama will find this a great opportunity. Newton Sports plans to combine efforts with Pro Bodies Performance of Ormond Beach in September. Frank Fischetti, long-time owner of Pro Bodies, has taken up new quarters and has asked Newton Sports to have a presence. So, a platform or two, many bars and bumpers, a Back Revolution®, and a power rack will soon be in place. Coach Newton will continue to train a select group of local athletes and hopes to expand operations. According to Newton, “Frank’s philosophy and mine are similar. We both expect to expand educational and coaching opportunities under a new roof. Look for some big news out of this venture in the very near future.”
